How to Set a Christmas Dinner Table
Having a cracking Christmas dinner table setup is a game-changer. No matter if you have overcooked your turkey or your roasters aren’t quite fluffy enough, if you have beautiful Christmas dining table décor, your celebrations are bound to be successful. Our blog will give you a step-by-step guide to prepping your Christmas table ready for the big day!
Step 1: Theme Your Décor
How to set a table for Christmas? The first step is to theme it to your décor! Whether you go for pinks or golds, or traditional reds and greens, the first tip to success when dressing your table for December 25th is to make sure it is in keeping with the rest of your decoration. @backtobricksatnumbersix has created a beautiful champagne gold theme, and the simple table décor works perfectly on our Castle Dining Table with the rest of the theme.

Step 2: The Table Runner
Whether you go for a tartan tablecloth to suit your traditional style décor or a champagne gold table runner for a more modern take on Christmas tableware, the table runner helps build the foundations for a beautiful tablescape! You could even add a garland as a runner to your table, and situate some LED candlesticks in the middle to spruce up your display. Plenty of foliage, dehydrated orange slices, pinecones, and eucalyptus could be intertwined to make your table garland a showstopping centrepiece, just like @gematyewtree demonstrates below.
Top Tip: Make sure your table runners or tablecloth is the right size for your table. Too long or too short can cause them to look out of place.
Step 3: Festive Crockery
Your Christmas table setup wouldn’t be complete without a bit of festive tableware! Whether your charger plates have a little bit of sparkle to them, or your serving platters have a festive theme to them, there are tons of novelty tableware you can play with, and depending on what theme you are going for, you can either work simplicity, like @a_corner_of_eden below, with their minimal Christmas setup, that works with our Solid Oak Chapel Chairs, paired with our Bespoke Winchcombe Table, which features hints of red, or go for full on Christmas vibes with plenty of tinsel, outrageous ornaments and lots of sparkle! Even if you have silver knives, forks and spoons, switching this up to some gold cutlery is a simple, yet effective way to make a Christmas statement.

Step 4: Dress Your Table
After the foundations of your dinner table have been laid, it’s time to get to the fun stuff! Get creative and enjoy creating your own table place cards and have a go at experimenting with origami. Christmas tree napkins, pretty knots and Christmas baubles are doing the rounds on TikTok, and with a short step by step guide that you can follow to ensure that your napkins are looking on point.
And we can’t forget perhaps one of the biggest British traditions at Christmas – crackers! You don’t need to buy amazing expensive crackers, part of the fun is the surprise of what is inside, no matter how random! But if crackers aren’t for you, you could always do mini presents that you could pop on your guests plate – almost like party favour boxes, the perfect finishing touches!

Step 5: Polish your Glassware
The last step of this Christmas table guide is one that many will miss out, but one that can be quite noticeable – if your glassware has been sitting in a cupboard for a year with dust settling inside – giving them a wash and a polish to make them sparkle and shine, it will certainly finish off your Christmas table look.
We hope that this little ‘how to’ guide has taken away some of the stress of preparing for Christmas 2021!
