We recently had the privilege of transforming Blackbrook Barns, a stunning Grade II listed wedding venue nestled between Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield, into an inviting café space. The venue's authentic character, from exposed beams to weathered brickwork, provided the perfect canvas for our industrial-meets-rustic furniture pieces. The temporary styling project showcased not only the versatility of Blackbrook Barns but also how our furniture's design philosophy at Peppermill Interiors perfectly complemented the building's original features.

Classic Dining Spaces

At the heart of the transformation were our Aged Pine Café Tables, featuring innovative compression-moulded ISOTOP tabletops that offer both durability and classic style. These surfaces proved particularly successful in the space, their minimal design versatile enough to bridge the gap between rustic and refined. The material properties result in a robust, durable, and long-lasting product, perfect for busy hospitality venues that handle food, drink, and the wear of everyday life.

These versatile pieces were complemented by the sophisticated Balmoral Dining Chairs, whose tan upholstery and weathered wooden legs brought an element of refined comfort to the space. The high-quality upholstery added a pop of colour while maintaining the sophisticated, luxury look essential to Blackbrook Barns’ character. The arrangement included both intimate two-seater settings and larger four-seater configurations, creating varied social spaces throughout the venue.

Intimate Seating Areas

For more intimate seating areas, we incorporated the Glastonbury Lounge Chairs, their distressed leather-effect upholstery and mid-century modern elements creating cosy corners that felt both refined and inviting. The hardwood frames echoed the architectural elements of the barn while adding a touch of contemporary comfort. The lounge areas featured these chairs in both rich brown distressed leather-effect upholstery and striking Matcha fabric, offering visual variety while maintaining design coherence. The sloped backs, plush faux leather seats, and ribbed stitching showcased popular mid-century modern elements while ensuring maximum comfort.

The Kilburn Coffee Tables, with their cast iron legs and reclaimed pine butcher's block tops aged over 100 years, completed these conversational spaces while echoing the venue's historic character. These pieces created intimate seating areas that balanced comfort with style, perfect for guests seeking a more relaxed atmosphere.

Adding Visual Interest Through Height

We strategically positioned our signature Machinist Stools throughout the space, their gunmetal frames and solid elm seats adding authentic industrial character. These distinctive alternatives to typical bar seating became natural focal points, their warm metallic surfaces and oak edges echoing the barn's rustic timber elements while adding a contemporary industrial edge. The adjustable height feature of both the high and low variants provided practical flexibility while maintaining visual interest.

Around the structural, brick pillars of the barn, we introduced the Reading Vintage Style Bar Stools, their solid oak frames and sculpted seats adding a softer, more rustic counterpoint to the industrial elements. The visible grain and intentional distressing marks on these pieces resonate with the barn's own weathered surfaces, and the sun streaming through the venue's large windows beautifully highlighted the rich brown hue of the stools.
